How to Get Rid of Wrinkles on Your Face

Laugh lines, fine lines, crow’s feet, age lines – no matter what you want to call it, many are on the quest to lessen if not completely eliminate the appearance of these lines on the face.

But what really are these and how can we get rid of them?  Let’s discuss some options but you should also consider seeing a professional.  I go to my medical spa in St. Louis whenever I need wrinkle treatment.

Wrinkles are creases and lines that appear on the skin. These are usually attributed to advanced age. Wrinkles develop due to the thinning of the skin and the loss of elasticity that occurs as a person progresses in age. These lines can vary in depth. Some appear to be like hairlines only while others can develop into deep crevices.

There are many factors that can increase the risk of having wrinkles but the most notorious of this has to be exposure to UV lights. This is because the UV lights destroy or breaks down the collagen of the skin. Collagen is what gives our skin its elasticity. This exposure tends to speed up a person’s aging.

Another cause is attributable to smoking. Again, this affects the skins ability to produce collagen. Having repeated facial expressions such as furrowing your forehead or smiling can create wrinkles because everytime grooves form under the surface of the skin. As you age, the skin loses it ability to spring back to its former place.

Now, since it appears that having wrinkles is an inevitable part of aging, many are worried and want to know of ways to delay their appearance or how to get rid of them once they start to appear. There are many ways available for this purpose.

Firstly, using sunscreen. When looking for sunscreen, consider the spectrum of protection from the likes of UVA and UVB rays. While you are at the point of slathering on protection to your skin, grab yourself a bottle of moisturizer. Better yet, a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Moisturizer is important because it helps plump up skin cells that have shriveled up. It helps incorporate and even trap water into the skin. This is great for those small lines. Being consistent in application is the key in order to see results via this method.

If you are a smoker, this is a best reason as any to quit. In a few days time, you will notice an improvement in your skin’s elasticity and overall appearance. For a faster and boosted result, go for eating healthier and incorporating certain vitamins into your diet. Try food that are rich in collagen or aid in collagen production. And of course, increase your water intake, as well. Remember the best source of moisture is none other than good old fashioned H2O. As much as possible get in your daily recommended eight to twelve glasses of water.

If you are dealing with more advanced wrinkles and deeper crevices, you can always opt for more advanced methods. There are topical medications that have the ingredient called retinoid that also help increase the production of collagen.

You can also opt for medical intervention that will help in plumping up the skin from the inside like botox theraphy. But of course, if your chose to undertake this route, make sure you consult with accredited dermatologists and have the procedure done in a safe environment.
